Oleocanthal is a phytonutrient found in olive oil. It has the ability, like an Ibuprofen, to reduce inflammation, which can reduce the risk of breast cancer and its recurrence. Other olive oil components are suspected to reduce cancer risk, among them are squalene and lignans.

Olive oil has been proven to lower the level of total blood cholesterol.LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides without altering the levels of HDL-cholesterol, which has a protective feature and prevents the formation of fatty patches, thus stimulating the elimination of the low-density lipoproteins.

Studies have shown that the oleocanthal in extra virgin olive oil can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and the cognitive decline that comes with aging. Olive oil polyphenols are known to be powerful antioxidants which may help reverse oxidative damage that occurs in the aging process.

anti-bacterial properties

Olive oil contains many nutrients that can inhibit or kill harmful bacteria. One of these is Helicobacter pylori, a bacteria that lives int he stomach and can cause stomach ulcers and stomach cancer.
